THE PUFFER COAT IS COOLER THAN EVER

If you have been watching the news or reading any of the latest headlines lately, then it is safe to say you need a break from it all. It has been quite a whirlwind with the ongoing nasty political, pre-election day banter, Hollywood breakups (Adios Brangelina) and the devastating aftermath left behind by last week’s hurricane Matthew. It’s hard not to notice also that temperatures are already starting to take a nose dive as fall has arrived. So before we hit the end of daylight savings time on November 6th, now would be a great time to look for that one coat that will take you through some of the coldest days of winter. What would be the one coat to invest in this coming winter? An oldie but goodie, the puffer coat! Yep – the goose down functional favorite was seen all over the fashion runways courtesy of Stella McCartney, Balenciaga, Moschino, Lanvin and many others. The trick is finding one that best suits your style and of course, comfort and warmth is always key. These days there so many options from vests, short jackets or long and colors. If you are feeling daring and tired of the old classic black puffer coat, try a metallic, green, red or even winter white. Here are some cozy options  to consider when shopping for that puffer coat.

NAVY HUES AND PEACOTS TAKE OVER FALL TRENDS

Fall is by far one of the best seasons for fashion. The versatility, the textures, patterns and layers make for a season of cool, fun style. Back in February, we told you that designers had presented a mix of casual and also polished fall looks at NYFW . What we saw repeatedly on the runway were different versions of navy and military inspired jackets and peacoats. Sure navy wool double-breasted coats have been fall classics forever but who doesn’t like the resurgence of something we may already own. In fact, if you already own a peacoat maybe it’s time to update the look entirely and go for a military style cape. Did you see that one coming? The cape has been a favorite for many seasons now and we can bet our fashion dollar it’s going nowhere soon. The color navy was also a popular color on the runways everywhere. Some examples would be Fendi, Miu Miu and Burberry.  It’s a staple and can easily be mixed with olive green, pastel pink, beige or for fun just add a pop of red. This is the time of year when outerwear options begin to peak.

FASHION TALENT & HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH

Hispanic Heritage Month kicked off on September 15th and it goes without saying that latinos have an impressive relationship with the world of fashion. Shall we begin the name dropping? Let’s start with fashion legends like Carolina Herrera, Isabel Toledo, Oscar de la Renta, Angel Sanchez, Francisco Costa, Narciso Rodriguez and Cristobal Balenciaga. These are just a few of the long list of big latino designers that are world re-known. They have set the bar pretty high for the newer generation of design talent. Even latin celebrity-turned-fashion designers like Thalia, Jennifer Lopez and Eva Mendes have found success diving into the fashion retail business. They currently sell their collections in stores like Macy’s, Kohls and New York & Company. Besides appealing to a mass market, they are also providing consumers quality and on-trend fashion at a fraction of a price. In the modeling world, Brazil has shined with names like Gisele, Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio. Let’s just say that list from Brazil is continuously growing. Today some other notable latina models hitting the runways are Joan Smalls and plus-size model from Puerto Rico, Denise Bidot and Lineisy Montero from the Dominican Republic. Fashion is only a portion of the many industries where latinos have grown and made a difference all the while keeping a strong work ethic and never forgetting their culture and roots. We only hope that we continue to see a rise with diversity in an industry that is global and multi-faceted. One Style at a Time salutes the Hispanic Community and all the men and women that have introduced us to their impressive creative talent.  Who are some of your favorite latin fashion designers and models?

WHO DOMINATED THE RED CARPET AT THE EMMYS

The much anticipated 68th annual Emmy Awards arrived Sunday night. It’s one of the biggest nights for shows and their top stars but of course, what kicks off the night is all the red carpet action. Who is wearing what and what are the trends of the night is the topic on everyone’s mind. We are looking to see who made the best-dressed list on the carpet and dazzled from head to toe. However, for the most part it was a very ‘safe’ type of night for Hollywood fashion. Nothing that stood out as a fashion look that will stand the test of time. Several of the men were quite dapper and although yes it comes down to basically a tuxedo, it is worth noting the effort. If you missed any of the action before or during the show,  One Style at a Time is always ready to bring you up to speed. One trend seen on the Emmys red carpet and that resonated from last week’s NYFW was the light cream and whites. Of course, we always love it when a celebrity brings a splash of bright bold color. So here we go fashion darlings! Our list of favorite looks from the 2016 Emmy awards. Who made the cut in your top list of best-dressed? Do you prefer color or a muted tone? Share below, we always enjoy your opinion and fashion comments.
