One of the most glamorous nights in Hollywood arrived last night, The Oscars. The anticipation had been building for weeks with the award season in full swing. There were so many great films this year to root for but we all know the “real show” is right on the red carpet. Many were tuned in to watch the starlets arrive and more importantly to see what they were wearing. There were some really beautiful gowns that did not disappoint, but although there were some clear hits of course there were some misses last night as well. The trends varied from silver metallics, shades of blue, sequins, pastels and creams, lace and touches of sheer.
So now its time to recap all the great moments at the Oscars red carpet and mention those that did disappoint as well. We couldn’t help but notice some of the ladies donned some fabulous hair styles so we have picked some “Best Hair” as well.
TheFanpage and Twitter were lit up last night with so many “LIKES”, tweets and comments as the live chat were in session. Thank you to everyone that was a part of it and for stopping by to give us your thoughts on your favorites and not so favorites red carpet looks. So Fashion darlings, did you tune in last night and if so what were your Hits and Misses at the Oscar Awards? Who in your book was the “Best Dressed”. And the Award for the most underwhelming of the night goes to…
Amanda Seyfried was too pale in this Alexander McQueen dress.
Anne Hathaway was ultra disappointing as an Oscar nominee in this ill fitting Prada gown.
Kristen Stewart missed the mark in this Reem Acra dress and needed help with the hair.
Monique Lhuillier is always a crowd favorite and had a full house waiting to see what this design power house was going to present. Her Fall/Winter 2013 did not disappoint! It was a runway fit for any stylist hunting for gowns for the Oscar award season (hello Brad Goreski who was sitting front row at the show).
The setting of the show felt like you were in emerald city with an abstract patterned green background that was the perfect backdrop for the looks to come. The show started with winter whites fur collared dresses, overcoats & sheath dresses. Then it transitioned to gold opulent short dresses and prints. The volume was kicked up many notches when the red carpet worthy gowns started to make their way down the runway. The models all had their hair slicked and tied back leaving the spotlight completely on the artistry of these dresses. It was a great moment for Lhuillier who’s designs have been worn by many A-list celebrities in the past. This collection had elegance and stunning details to wow any lady looking to make a statement. Tell us what you think, which of these gowns stole your attention.
What comes after the Golden Globes and before the Oscars? You guessed it the Screen Actors Guild Awards. These days Runway shows are not solely meant to present women’s fashion apparel and accessories. Designers work closely with hair and makeup teams to bring together a complete look for their shows. Celebrities on the red carpet also bring forward trends that many look to emulate when it comes to hair style. A brand new year and the anticipation of a new spring season are two great reasons to want to “refresh” your look.
One Style at a Time is bringing you a recap of what the top hair trends are for this year. For Spring/Summer 2013 there were many hair styles that included long wavy locks and deep side parts. This coincided with a few of the looks we saw at this year’s Golden Globes (Isla Fisher, Jessica Alba). If you love a touch of vintage you are just in luck. One of the hottest looks is inspired by the 1920’s era (think Great Gatsby) with retro curls and waves.
Unless you are living under a rock by now you may have heard Michelle Obama and Kate Middleton have updated their hair cuts by adding Bangs. The actresses Kerri Washington, Jessica Biel and Jennifer Lopez have also been photographed donning bangs as of late.
Long wavy styled hair has been a predominant choice for quite some time. This continues on for Spring/Summer 2013. However, the media went into a frenzy when Vogue’s favorite supermodel Karlie Kloss cut her long locks to a light, layered swingy bob back in November 2012. This cut has now been named the “Haircut of the Year” by the New York Times. The Bob cut has also been seen in actresses like Marion Cotillard, Julianne Hough and Gabrielle Union. The pixie cut is the shortest and boldest of all these trends. One lady that carries this look to perfection is Halle Berry. Anne Hathaway also has embraced her short cut.
Another style that has taken the runway by storm including the Tory Burch Spring show was the Braid. From romantic to bohemian braids, it is one the most popular styles this year. The side fishtail braid is one that has been worn by celebs like Jennifer Hudson, Eva Longoria and Blake Lively. If you are a fan of the classic ponytail then there is something her for you as well. The low ponytail combined with the deep side part was seen at the Jil Sander, Michael Kors and Jenny Packham shows.
So from the very long to shorter and edgy what would be your choice of hair style? Which style suits you the best? Which of these hair trends would you be willing try?
So once the award show wrapped up and the crowds had dispersed, what is next? The After-Parties! Celebrities, award winners, nominees and even those that did not attend the awards make their way to some of the most famous events to continue the Golden Globe celebration. Besides the actual award event the after-party is the next best time to make a dress change or to just arrive all dolled up. So who wore what to the In Style post awards shiny ding? Here are a few ladies that came ready to pose and have a good time while looking quite fabulous. Who were some of your favorites?
