New York Fashion Week Details

With the arrival of February comes a new season of New York Fashion Week. This week the city will be buzzing with Fashion Designers presenting their Autumn/Winter 2013 Collections at Lincoln Center and all throughout the city. The shows at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is without a doubt the hottest ticket in town. So it’s no surprise that each season the demand to attend the shows increases and so do the crowds at the tents.

So what happens if you want to attend NYFW but live outside of the NYC area? What if you live outside of the country? If shows are pretty exclusive and by invite-only how can you be a part of this fashion experience? I can answer all these questions in two words, LIVE STREAMING.

Live Streaming online has been happening for a few seasons now. In the past only a few designers had participated in streaming their fashion shows via their Facebook page, website or through other streaming sites like YouTube. This year thanks to a partnership between IMG and Rightster.

(Rightster is a platform that distributes, promotes and secures advertising for online videos) you can live stream ALL the shows at Lincoln Center. Now you don’t have to feel out of the fashion loop. All you need is your computer or tablet, log into Mercedes Benz Fashion Week beginning February 7th and voila you are sitting front row

Of course One Style at a Time will also be making the rounds at the shows so check back with us here for our runway and collections reviews. NYFW: Angel Sanchez Spring 2013 Collection

Last September it was a very exciting time for One Style at a Time. To have the great opportunity to attend and view Angel Sanchez 2013 Spring/Summer Collection. This Venezuelan charismatic and highly talented Fashion Designer presented a collection that brought elegance, vibrant colors and a great attention to detail. Angel Sanchez is known for his bridal collections, evening gowns and intricate design construction. The latter derives from his years as an architect before becoming a designer.

It was impressive to see him work the room with so much charm. He was all smiles as he spoke to the press and greeted all his guests and discussed his inspiration for this collection. On this occasion his inspiration was the work of a fellow Venezuelan, artist Rafael Barrios. Sanchez described the influence as, “A balance between precise lines and very geometric elements.” It was the perfect marriage of art meets fashion as the models wore gowns in organza fabric, details with embroideries and the right on trend, laser cutouts. This spring collection has all the elements of success and a sure fit for great red carpet moments. Celebrities that have walked the carpet in Sanchez pieces have been Eva Longoria, Taylor Swift, Brooke Shields and Sandra Bullock to name just a few.

NYFW: Farah Angsana Spring 2013 Collection

One of the first shows I had the pleasure of attending at Lincoln Center last September was by Farah Angsana. As the lights were dimmed and the music began to play, one by one the runway turned into a exotic paradise with an array of rich colors, prints and the dancing of chiffon’s, silks and organza fabrics. The crystal embellishments on some of these evening and cocktail gowns glittered and shined as the light bounced off the movement of the models. It is no surprise the designer named this collection, “The Glamazon”. Farah was inspired by her travels to Brazil. She further describes the woman that inspired this collection, “A woman who got caught up in a love that brought a new sense of herself. Blossoming into her thoughts and re-inventing her life in every way.”
Farah has been the first and only Indonesian designer to show a collection in Paris and completed her Fashion studies in London. Her specialty is bridal and couture. The influences are all there and they were certainly palpable in this lovely and elegant Spring/Summer Collection for 2013.

NYFW: Christine Alcalay Spring/Summer 2013 Collection

The bitter cold winter days of January are officially here in the states. The days when we begin to remove the trimmings from the Christmas tree and store all the holiday decorations have arrived. As we brace ourselves for the brisk months ahead, retailers are busy stocking their shelves and racks with Spring/Summer Fashion. This brings me back to September 2012. How is that you may ask? Simple, it was then when I attended New York Fashion Week and my first show to attend was by the designer Christine Alcalay.

Christine is a NewYork based designer from Vietnam who presented a feminine, sweet and romantic Spring collection. It was a bright sunny September day in Chelsea, New York. The presentation was beautiful juxtaposed with a touch of light and tranquility. The white space served as a backdrop accompanied by pure bright sunlight, and a slight breeze that gave the sheer drapes an ethereal feel. All this while a violinist played in the background. This was the perfect scenery while  the still models were dressed in a variety of floral silk dresses, a chantilly black lace blouse, silk charmeuse jacket, chiffon skirt overlays and mixed prints of polka dot and florals. This ready to wear collection had all the right elements for spring. Suits for the office, tops and skirts for brunch or a dress for an evening out in the city. The interchangeable pieces made this collection a chic and delightful fusion for the days ahead of Spring/Summer 2013.

Special Thank You to Christine Alcalay for the Fashion Presentation invite and charming gift bag provided.
