F/W Trend: The SHEER Of It All

It seems that in the past few weeks Hollywood starlets have been setting the red carpet on fire with the latest daring fashion trend, SHEER. With so many movie premieres and press junkets it looks as though celebrities are prepared to show more skin than usual. The strategic cutouts have now been replaced by sheer fabrics that leave less to the imagination.

This comes to no surprise if you look back through some of the Fall/Winter runway shows. Designers like Helmut Lang, Gucci, and Chloe simultaneously have taken this sheer trend and carried it through the runway. The House of Dior has made a strong statement with sheer gowns that seemed to be more provocative each time a new actress hits the red carpet. So the question is how can everyday women partake in this style? Believe it or not its an edgy and modern alternative that can be worn at work, for evening or weekend events. It’s all in how you combine your look with the right accessories and how far you are willing to go, keeping it classy of course. Perhaps you’re not keen on wearing a head to toe see through dress, not everyone can pull a Jaimie Alexander and that’s fine. There are many pretty tops in the market today that have sheer sleeves that can be feminine. A lace or polka dot dress with a sheer overlay is another option. Keep your favorite blazer or cardigan handy if you need a bit more coverage. The right jewels, bag and shoe can make this so elegant.

This holiday season it would be just the right time to experiment with this type of look. We invite all the One Style at a Time readers to visit the brand French Connection and take advantage of their 30% Sale and Promo code which you can use below until November 26th.

Black and White Holiday Style

New York City had its first signs of snow flurries and it instantly feels like winter has officially arrived. The Holidays are just weeks away and how can we forget the shopping frenzy of “black friday”. If you are currently working on your shopping list or looking for style ideas for upcoming special events then keep the classic black and white in mind.

Black and white has been seen on fashion runways, red carpets and everywhere in the stores this fall. Your options are gingham, stripes, polka dots, lace and any combination of graphics. One of the advantages of this monochromatic palette is that it suits anyone no matter what your overall style is. If you are going for a dressy look with a cocktail dress, a casual sweater and jeans or a suit for the office look, it WORKS!
It can be as elegant, sophisticated or as edgy as you want it to be. The choice is yours this season and if you want to add just a splash of color… go for it. A red lip, belt or shoes would compliment this black and white attire to perfection.

So Fashionistas get ready for more holiday ideas to come your way. Tell us if you are a fan of the black and white hype right now? What fashion are you happy to see this holiday season? Leave us your fabulous comments below, the forum is open now.

Time to Reminisce: Jackie Kennedy our First Lady of Fashion

November is here and its the official start of the Holiday season and Holiday Fashion. This month also brings an unforgettable time for our country. It marks the 50th Anniversary of the death of one of the most beloved President’s of all time, John F. Kennedy. A variety of tributes have been seen all around from the release of books to a TV Movie that will premiere November 10th titled, “Killing Kennedy” based on the book written by Bill O’Reilly.

President Kennedy will always be one of the most magnetic and interesting historic figures of our nation but without a doubt his wife Jacqueline Kennedy was in FASHION our ‘First Lady’. She not only embodied poise, pure elegance and intellect but had a sense of style that until this day is still iconic. So many of her looks continue to live on today and have been replicated a million times over. Who hasn’t worn big black ‘Jackie O’ sunglasses, three tiered string pearls, a headscarf or ballerina flats. Chanel Suits and Oleg Cassini gowns were some of her go-to designers for major events.

To commemorate the glamorous glory of the Kennedy’s, Reminisce Magazine, North America’s top-selling nostalgia magazine has unveiled a special slideshow entitled Jackie O, The First Lady of Fashion. One Style at a Time invites you to visit and view this slide show with some truly memorable and sophisticated fashion moments by Jacqueline Kennedy. (Digital downloads of this edition of Reminisce are also available for the Nook, Kindle or Google Play & Android).

We want to hear from you Fashionistas! Tell us if you have been inspired by Jackie’s style in any way. What was your favorite outfit or timeless item worn by her that you still treasure today. We welcome your thoughts and comments and can be left below.
