Happy 3rd Blogiversary!!!

Celebrations are a time that marks a special milestone or event. Today is one of those days. Can you believe One Style at a Time turns THREE years old on this very day. There is no better way to say it but yes, time does fly and in the blogging world it goes by rather quickly. Its a mix of emotions to think that this little space where we gather to talk about fashion, style, trends and many topics has stood the test of time.

Three years later there is so much to be thankful for. First, a special thank you to all those loyal followers and readers that have been around from day one. CHEERS AND HERE’S TO MANY MORE YEARS AT ONE STYLE AT A TIME!!!

Fashion Designers That Inspire Your Style

New York Fashion Week is only a couple of weeks away and it brings to mind that Fashion is more than just clothes on a rack or the latest look on a red carpet. It all goes back to the heart of the matter which is the fashion designer. There is no question that the industry and concept of designing clothes has changed and the longevity of a designer at a fashion house has also diminished. We live in a world where you can walk into a store and find designs by American iconic designer Calvin Klein but stumble upon designs by celebrities and reality stars. That however is a whole other chapter. Today we focus on authentic talent and designers that have made a true impact on style and left a mark in the pages of fashion history and have won the admiration of so many.

There was a time when Fashion Designers revolutionized the industry with an item or collection that could change history. Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel gave us the little black dress, Yves Saint Laurent invented the first women’s tuxedo and Christian Dior’s first collection was considered in fashion as the “new look”. It’s tough to compete with so many iconic designers. Today we have an array of new talent that is making its way to become legends of their own time, more than likely in a different way then what we knew decades ago. With social media and the internet fashion designers today are dealing with a whole new ball game. Still we look back and can’t help but admire the classics because there lies a strong foundation. Then you add the imagination, technique and creativity and there you have a new point of view. So many iconic men and woman have made fashion exciting for us.

So One Style at a Time readers, who are your legends of Fashion? Which fashion designers past or present inspire your style? If you had the opportunity to sit down and have a conversation with ONE designer who would that be? So go ahead Fashionistas and drop us a comment below. We always appreciate your feedback.

2014: Golden Globes BEST Dressed & More

The beginning of the much talked about award season has officially arrived and it all started this past Sunday with the Golden Globes. So many tuned in to see if their favorite TV shows or movies would win, but the buzz of course was all about the Fashion. So many predictions had been made all over the media but it wasn’t until the limos began to arrive the red carpet that the unveiling began. Certainly there were some good moments and some that left much to be desired by some usual red carpet favorites (we are talking to you Julia Roberts, Jennifer Lawrence and Sandra Bullock). We expect you ladies to step up your game in the next round of award shows.

However, lets leave those so so moments behind and focus on those that took risks, left an impression and are worthy of Best Dressed! Great first impressions came from newcomer ’12 Years a Slave’ actress Lupita Nyong’o and ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ actress Margot Robbie. Cate Blanchett who usually dresses quite fashion forward was a classic beauty in a black lace Armani Prive. Fashionistas are always keeping an eye on what were the top trends that shined. Sunday night it was metallics, colors like green and red and well no fashion moment could happen without some classic little black dresses. Finally, some of the most fabulous moments at the Globes were had by the mommy-to-be’s. These ladies took baby bump glamour to another level from Kerry’s simplicity, Olivia’s emerald glamour to Drew’s feminine embroidered gown.

Did you watch the Golden Globes fashion readers? What were some of your favorites? Which were some of the looks that had you dissatisfied or perplexed? Leave us your comments and tell us how you rated the fashion and style at this award show.

Fashion on Film: ‘American Hustle’ 70’s Style

One of the best past times during the Holiday season has to be watching some great MOVIES. Some highly anticipated films have already been released or are slowly making their way to the theatres just in time for all the Oscar Nomination Buzz.

This month you won’t want to miss the release of ‘American Hustle’. This crime drama film which is set in 1978 and directed by “Silver Linings Playbook”, director David O’Russell has all the makings of an award season favorite. With a stellar cast that includes Jennifer Lawrence, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale and Jeremy Renner how can you go wrong. One element that takes center stage in this movie is the Fashion!

Its a full on sexy, over-the-top, daring 70’s vibe. The costume designer that brings to life the era of disco is the tenured Michael Wilkinson of films such as ‘The Man of Steel’, ‘300’ and ‘Twighlight Saga’ just to name a few. Michael who comes from a theatre background was inspired by looks from Bianca Jagger, vintage photography, old thrift shops and designers such as Halston, DVF, Gucci and Dior. Actresses Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence steal the spotlight wearing metallic lames, sequin dresses, fur coats, wrap dresses and of course jumpsuits. Plenty of shimmer, gold, polyester, bad perms and side burns that take you right back to the dancing days of Donna Summer.  Take a look at the preview of the movie below. Tell us fashion readers are you fans of the 70’s fashion? Do you use any elements of this decade in your style today?
