Holiday Cocktail Rings under $100

During the holidays you can’t help but gravitate toward all things that shine and sparkle. Not only are we obsessing over the glittery dresses and shoes but also the jewelry! One of my favorite pieces of jewelry whether its costume or authentic is the Cocktail Ring.

Cocktail rings throughout time have proven to make a bold, elegant and very fashion forward statement. The bigger the ring, the better! You can’t help but notice celebrities wearing them at red carpet events, award shows and other public functions.

This is the time of year that can also bring invitations to  work holiday parties, family gatherings and other special celebrations. If you are not ready to wear multiple pairs at one time, then wear just one fabulous ring. A simple little black dress with a colored gem large ring can boost the voltage on any look. It’s the season of giving so keep in mind that the right cocktail ring can serve as a great gift idea for mothers, sisters or just a friend. Here are a few options and all under $100. PS: Don’t forget the manicure!

Holiday Gifts for Fashion Readers!

So now that black Friday and cyber Monday have come and gone,  it’s time to get focused on  holiday shopping.
Well, some of you are probably making your lists and checking it twice. While you compile your lists you may wonder what can I get that special lady that appreciates style, shopping and fashion and maybe a little history. Well, I know that today we live in a time where technology and gadgets are all the rage for gifts. However, why not give the gift of a great book to a fashion savvy lady! You may say well what about a subscription to a fashion magazine? Sure that is always welcome, but how about something a little more permanent and classic. The right fashion literature can be unexpected, elegant, fun, insightful and a collector’s item. It may even serve as a great coffee table decorative piece. Here are some recommendations which can be found in hard copies or through e-readers. There are a lot of great choices so look around for what you think is the best choice. Here are some of my personal recommendations this holiday season! Happy Shopping Fashionistas!

A Red & Green Holiday!

Hello One Style at a Time friends!

It’s hard to believe how quickly the holidays have made their way into our calendar days. As everyone stores away their autumn colors, pumpkins and  rakes away their leaves now its time for the Holidays. This is the time of year when you will see everything that sparkles as we previously discussed in the post One Sparkle at a Time. Also, colors to be inspired by are red and green right now! Red has made an appearance in our blog several times this year. Both of these colors made a great impression on the runway with one of my favorite designers Elie Saab whose designs are featured below. So when you’re trimming your Christmas tree, buying your gift wrapping paper or decorating around your home take a look at how these great colors can transform your closet. From coats, gloves, sweaters, scarves, jewelry and even manicures,  bring a little RED & GREEN to your Fashion holiday rotation. Have a little fun, it is after all the most FESTIVE time of the year!

Maria Felix…Maria Bonita the Legend!

Here at One Style at a Time we have a special place for the Golden Age of Cinema and Hollywood. We have made no secret of our admiration for vintage fashion and the link with stars such as Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe etc… The Latin culture had a golden starlet and icon of their own.

Maria de los Angeles Felix Guerena was born in Sonora, Mexico. She was by far one of the most famous, respected and legendary film actresses of the golden era in Mexico and throughout Latin America.  She starred in over 47 movies and was known as a Mexican Goddess and Diva. She also was known to be called  “Maria Bonita (Pretty Maria), and la Dona”, the latter came from her role in the movie, “Dona Barbara” one of her most famous films.

She was known to be a collector of fine antiques and jewelry. In the fashion world she was a regular fixture with  Fashion designers such as Christian Dior, Balenciaga, Chanel, Givenchy and Yves Saint Laurent designing many gowns for Maria.

Back in March of this year, V Magazine featured model Daria Werbowy in a “Maria Felix” inspired editorial spread. (see photos below)

“We know that an original woman isn’t one that doesn’t imitate anyone but one to which no one can imitate”

Marilyn Monroe & Michelle Williams

Marilyn Monroe is by far one of the biggest bombshells in history. Her legacy is one that has lived on for many generations. There have been many movies and books written about this starlet and many actresses that have played Marilyn in past movies. Some have even been compared to this legend for her style and sex appeal.

This time around Michelle Williams is taking on the role of Marilyn in “My Week with Marilyn” which will be released in the US on November 23rd and in the UK on November 25th. The movie is centered around the making of one of her movies “The Prince and the Showgirl” starring Laurence Olivier. It’s always exciting to see peeks of Marilyn’s life being brought to life for us to see. Fashion and style is always center stage when it comes to Ms. Monroe so its no surprise that Michelle Williams covered the October issue of US Vogue. She spoke about preparing for this role for over six months and being involved in an extensive process of research. Already there is a strong awards nominating buzz for this movie and for Michelle Williams. I’m sure many of the Marilyn fans will be lined up, ready and excited to see this film make its debut.
