Elegance in Black & White for Fall

Fashion readers, September is here and its a busy one. Labor day has come and gone and the kids are sharpening their pencils for a new school year.  Many are saying farewell to the color white since the saying goes “no white after labor day”. Now before you begin packing your summer whites, keep in mind that black and white is a predominant trend you will see this fall. Designers like Marc Jacobs, Ferragamo, Lela Rose and BCBG showed this timeless combination in their Fall 2011 collections. It’s a sophisticated option if you are a fan of black or dark hues. Perhaps you are not ready to spend a lot of time and money on the brights or the color blocking in stores now. Here are a few runway looks that can serve as great inspiration for your new black and white (very Chanel) look. Fabulous and chic! *Visit  the…

Take a chance with red and coordinate it with black and white, nudes or a touch of grey. Take some inspiration from this post and don’t forget to add this vivacious color to your day to day. Then and Now…Guipure Lace is here for Fall 2011!

Guipure is a word I remember hearing my mother Sabina mention when I was growing up. I always found it to be a fascinating and sophisticated term. If you remember from my very first post From the Beginning my mom was the very first Fashion role model I had at home. So its of no surprise that I learned so many terms about fabrics, sewing, trimmings, silhouettes and what is now considered vintage fashion. At times she referenced this lace embroidery when she described dresses that she had owned or had seamstresses make for her. Recently, this term resonated with me when I saw how Marc Jacobs, Valentino, Tom Ford and other designers are making use of this lace pattern in their collections for Fall 2011. From centuries past in Europe until now, guipure has been used in wedding dresses, trimmings for apparel and linens to name a few examples. It’s versatile…
