Forever Oscar de la Renta: Hillary Honors Oscar at USPS Ceremony

On Thursday, legendary Oscar de la Renta was honored by the U.S. Postal Service with eleven commemorative Forever stamp designs. At the ceremony were CNN anchor and journalist, Anderson Cooper, Vogue’s editor in chief, Anna Wintour, former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton and former Mayor Michael Bloomberg among many other friends of Oscar. It was a special tribute to such a talented man that the fashion industry respected and was loved by the world. He was a proud Dominican and Latino and wherever he went he talked about his people, culture and country with honor and humility. “I know Oscar would have loved these stamps. He delighted in color and pattern, in refinement and in fit, and his designs reflected his personality, optimistic and fun and sunny and romantic,” said Anna Wintour. Then Clinton who took to the podium to close the ceremony said, “The Postal Service’s choice of this immigrant who…

NYFW Gets Political On The Runway

Fashion is making their political voice heard this week and quite loudly. NYFW designers and models on and off the runway are utilizing their talent and art to speak up about the current issues we are facing. It was to be expected with women’s rights being challenged, immigration injustices and the talk of walls and bans in the White House. We were wondering just a few weeks ago why there was so much silence from the fashion industry. Well, it looks as though they decided to let the clothes do the talking. Shows like Prabal Gurung, Public School, Christian Siriano just to name a few, made their beliefs quite clear on the runway. We are all living in a world that is completely different than it was ten years ago, five years ago or even five months ago when we last had fashion month. With so much divisiveness and uncertainty, the one thing…

Top 5 Best Dressed at the 2017 Grammys

Awards season is in full swing and last night the music industry celebrated some of music’s top talent. Adele was the big winner of the night as she swept the Grammys with five wins for her five nominations. Beyonce was nominated for nine awards and took home only two. It seems the Grammys continue to receive backlash and can’t shake the controversy of not awarding Beyonce for best album again and again. Her fans were less than pleased. One of her biggest fans last night spoke up and that was the very winner of the award for best album, Adele. She was gracious and really gushed about how incredible Beyonce’s ‘Lemonade’ album was. It seems award shows are never going to live up to everyone’s expectations because someone in the end, is always going to lose. I think the biggest award for any artist is one, the gift that they have to…

Modern Day Amelia Earhart – Rihanna

“There’s something so special about a woman who dominates in a man’s world. It takes a certain grace, strength, intelligence, fearlessness, and the nerve to never take no for an answer. Amelia Earhart was such a dynamic force in her industry, setting multiple aviation records in her time.” Rihanna For the March cover of Harper’s Bazaar Rihanna channels Amelia Earhart, first American female aviation pioneer and author. To say Rihanna has broken down barriers in music and fashion pretty much goes without saying. Beautiful and talented she makes quite a statement in this photo editorial, especially during a time when women are fighting harder than ever for their rights. We live in a time when women are stronger, smarter, capable and more successful than ever, but still battling to be seen as an equal in a man’s world. The photos capture the theme of Earhart’s fashion at the time but all…

NYFW Day 1: Brock Collection/Ulla Johnson

Day one at NYFW has concluded. Today we bring you some highlights of what opening day at the tents looked like for Fall/Winter 2017. We start with the Brock Collection. Never heard of them? Ok here is the rundown. The design team consists of a husband and wife, Laura Vassar and Kris Brock who won the top prize at the CFDA/Vogue fashion fund award. Here comes their first presentation since their big win. We enjoyed this collection and once again from the looks of things, textures and luxe furs continue to make strong statements for next fall (although we prefer faux, we’ll take the real deal as inspiration). There were lady-like looks including pencil skirts, poufy dresses and polished daywear. We loved the cinched waistlines, plaids and gingham patterns with nude and camel tones. Another collection that we enjoyed was Ulla Johnson. Her pieces had bohemian elements with exceptional outerwear tailoring.…
