“Mere longevity is a good thing for those who watch life from the side lines. For those who play the game, an hour may be a year, a single day’s work an achievement for eternity” – Helen Hayes

Today I take a short personal pause from the weekly fashion reporting to celebrate and acknowledge One Style at a Time’s fifth blogging year. Five years ago today I wrote my very first introductory blog post and had no idea what this experience would be like or what the future would hold. In the span of five years, so much has changed in the fashion and blogging world and I have certainly learned so much.

The world of fashion and technology is a fast-paced environment that is constantly evolving with its massive amounts of information and the growing number of digital outlets. Needless to say, being a blogger in 2016 has many challenges as well as rewards. It is incredibly hard work because you’re wearing several hats to accomplish a list of tasks. It consists of long hours of brainstorming, extensive research, writing and re-writing, editing and finding the best way to present the most relevant content, all with the hopes of holding the reader’s interest (not to even mention the hours of technical roadblocks that present themselves). I’ve spoken to many people that still think fashion blogging is an easy, fun hobby with cute perks. In my case, this couldn’t be farther from the truth. Sure, there are some who post photos without any written material and just probably do so for entertainment and that’s great. I’m talking about those bloggers that pour their heart, sweat and tears into the art of informing the public and composing valuable material to publish. The purpose of saying all this is to show that in five years, yes blogging has changed for myself and for many others.

Change has also hit the top of the pyramid. For as long as I can remember I have been following some of the biggest fashion houses like Dior,Lanvin, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga and YSL. In just the last five years alone, some of the biggest masterminds of fashion have left their positions as head creative directors. There is a notable shift happening in the world of high fashion as well as in the consumer market of ready to wear. From small startups to larger global corporations, blogging has taken a bigger, more necessary platform. The internet is how the world communicates and connects daily. Having an online voice is something that we all need to acknowledge. We live in a time where anonymity is a thing of the past and we are after all thanks to social media, walking branded billboards.

Now back to my personal experience in blogging. Of course, some of the most enjoyable moments until now have been interacting with the fashion community and discussing all the trending hot topics. Connecting with like-minded people was, in fact, one of main reasons why I launched this blog. I look back today and can honestly say I am proud of the work that I have provided. I’ve always said that One Style at a Time is not about my individual looks or style. In fact, it’s a place where my readers can learn a bit about fashion runway roundups, discover trend alerts, find style inspiration and spurts of additional information. Ultimately, I want to be the informative bridge between high-end and everyday fashion.

In looking ahead, the formula for this blog may change and when the time comes we will see what that looks like. For now, I want to say thank you to each and every follower, reader and friend that I have made along the way. I thank you for your support, readership and for making this five-year-old experience a special one for me. I don’t take for granted the longevity of One Style at a Time and I am honored to still be a part of this online community.
